Description: Abner Johnson, Isaac Johnson, son, Bangor, ME. Advertised 1830, moved to Boston in the 1870’s.  Cylinder, rolled lip, aqua, pontiled.  American C. 1860.
Label on Johnson’s Anodyne states, “For coughs, colds, grippy cold, colic, asthmatic distress, bronchial colds, nasal catarrh, cholera morbus, cramps, diarrhea, bruises, common sore throat, burns and scalds, chaps and chafing, chilblains, frost bites, muscular rheumatism, soreness, sprains and strains.”
An anodyne is a drug used to lessen pain through reducing the sensitivity of the brain or nervous system. The term was common in medicine before the 20th century, but such drugs are now more often known as analgesics or painkillers. Johnsons Anodyne contained “Ether” 26 minims per ounce (drug active ingredients).

Condition: Excellent, strongly embossed, pebbled whittled glass, rich aqua color, open pontil.
